We have frequently been shit in the cups and Sam got us to a semi. Just saying.

I was a Sam supporter, but just looking at the final league table and Leicester scored 2 more goals than us this season....

Bad stat.

let's hope that we get a manager that has experience that can take us on to the next level and make us into a top 10 club regularly.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
How many fans who you know were 'demanding' European football under Sam Allardyce?

Hand on heart, I do not know a single fan who 'demanded' European football.

This piece smacks of the desperation of newspapers' determination to do the counter-intuitive on "Day Two" of a story.

Sam has gone, and they have covered that as an initial story. They've also speculated wildly on who the new manager will be, but they have column inches to fill before the new man is installed.

So they get somebody who once flew over the stadium to bark on about how he's a long-suffering fan of at least six months and how he loved the previous manager.

By the way, to all the fuckwits like Souness, Ferguson and this fool at the Independent, the "West Ham" way is very simple...

We don't always expect to win (primarily because we are not deluded) but we expect the ball on the floor, with an emphasis on skill/technique, and an entertaining game of football.

That is the West Ham way of Greenwood and Lyall.

Remember that whole entertainment thing? Ah, those rose-tinted days...

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
Why do people keep babbling on about style and all that?

Fact is that results haven't been good enough, that's why his contract hasn't been renewed.

He's won 3 of the last 21 games

He's spent about £100 million NET in 4 years and has finished below Crystal Palace for two seasons running.

That isn't good enough. Not by any stretch. And every manager of every club in the world would struggle to make a case to justify their retention after that.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
Change is a good thing with respect to Allardyce leaving.

As for the speculation of other managers when in charge, what do you do? throw the towel in or get results that make it virtually impossible to to be sacked? Its a bit akin to when managers go and buy others players to create "competition" to get the best performance - same rules apply.

West Ham need to change, we are moving forward as a club and these changes sometimes painful but needful will not necessarily happen overnight. Allardyce was brought in on a contract and has seen it out...what is the problem with that?

The new dawn is fast approaching, time to ship out the dead wood and build for a better one West Ham future.

Oh and Fuck Ferguson and Fuck Souness

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
Obviously the author is a Sam fan: fair enough. Unfortunately he/she has in many instances stretched the truth.

1. The point may apply to Sullivan but both Gold and Brady have been generally supportive of the manager right up to the death. The board were not openly searching for a new manager - at least not publicly - until fairly recently, well after the slump began.

2. If you remember back to Greenwood and Lyall you should understand. I've been around since Ted Fenton (the original, not the Frintonian) and know what it means. We're accustomed to not winning much (which is what Fergie has forgotten), but style and creativity count too.

3. You say delusion, I say ambition, even if overstretched. And as for getting into an F.A. Cup final, it'd help if you played your best team, especially given that we're unlikely to break into the top 5.

4. Drivel. Most of this point is just complete nonsense. I'd only add that Sam got plenty of credit for the performances up until Christmas. While there may have been those who pointed out that Sullivan signed Sakho, they can hardly be criticised for stating fact.

I'd add two further points as you've neglected to mention them. Sam failed, from fairly early on but culminating in the ear-cupping fiasco, to engage with the club's supporters. This may be attributable to my second point, that being Sam's arrogance: now, if you want to talk about delusions he's your man. From his ceaseless inability to accept any meaningful responsibility for poor performances to his assertion that he'd fit in well at Real Madrid etc.

I'm happy to give Sam credit for (as everyone keep's saying with only moderate exaggeration) having done all that was aked of him - albeit by the skin of his teeth in 2 of the 4 seasons. But it was apparent to much of the support that he'd hit his metaphorical ceiling. With the OS looming it is a good time to make the change: it remains to be seen how wise/lucky we are in finding his replacement.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
As for the West Ham way if he hasn't enjoyed watching Tevez Benayoun, Berkovic, Sinclair, Di Canio Kanoute Cole Kitson Carrick Bishop Devonshire and all the other lesser or more fleeting versions of Etherington, Dani, Future (very fleeting) etc etc then why is he watching us.

These flair players are what we are about, if we are going to finish 15th - 10th then we need these types in the side.

It's easy to pin the West Ham way to Allison and cafe boys, that was what made us stand out from the rest and the majority of managers have tried to stick to that despite relegatiobs and budget constraints. Allardyce dismissed all that because he did not have a clue how to coach or train that kind of side.

He had no idea how to play through midfield, to encourage flair and crest chances.

This writer is one of those pseudo football intellectuals, divorced if one romantic bone in his body. If the David Baddiel show gave us the Post 96 fans, we now have the post opta stat fan, inverting the pyramid fan who by reading a few books on tactics and formations rates themselves as a football genius.

A heat map twat.

You need to feel football and this twat has never ever kissed s girl. Fact.

The deluded slur is a cheap shot from a lazy journalist.

I have not come across too many West Ham fans that think we should be top 6 or Champion's League. Just those that want to be entertained and watch a team that at least sets out to give it a go in every match. What's the point in believing you have lost before a ball is kicked.

Even if we lose to the top 4 teams more often than not let's lose to them with a bit of gusto rather than in surrender.

The Bard 8:49 Tue May 26
Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
His FA Cup comment is class. We don't expect to the win the fucking thing but equally chucking the game by playing your whole U21 side and then capitulating 4-0 to West Brom took some doing.

A West Ham manager has never dismissed or derided both cup competitions like Sam.

"YEAR ONE"

The original poster, Allardyce and twats like Shearer and Souness seem to think the top flight is something new to us and we are a yoyo team.

Fact is we have been top flight for around 87% of the last 60 odd years.

We are one of the best supported and wealthiest clubs in the country charging top 4 prices, our manager was one of the HIGHEST PAID IN THE WORLD, we are NOT comparable to fucking Hull, Wigan, Burnley, Stoke, Swansea, Crystal Palace, QPR, Burnley, Bolton and even Southampton etc etc...

Not claiming we are as big as the top 6 but we have always had the potential and are moving into the OS soon so we need a bit more than 12th place and terrible football every season thanks, is that okay?

Not sure why some people don't seem to be able to grasp this and instead choose to use cliches and ignore all of the above when talking about us.

Re: Deluded fans and clueless owners
I agree with some of the sentiments here, but the bottom line for me was that the results fell off a cliff since Christmas.

We had a great opportunity to really put a decent season together and we won what, three games out of 21?

We have simply been a bad football team, unable to create chances. Allardyce has to take the blame for those results.

He did a good job for us overall, but it was coming apart at the seams. We have a small squad and injuries, but that's the same for the majority of clubs in the division.

LOOK IT IS THIS SIMPLE, HE SIMPLY DID NOT DO WELL ENOUGH.
TOP 7 AND HE WOULD STILL BE IN THE JOB NO ONE COULD TOUCH HIM.
IF SAM ALLARDYCE WANTED PEOPLE TO SWALLOW WHAT HE WAS OFFERING THEN HE HAD TO GET THE POINTS, HE DID NOT .
WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND ?
